Responsibilities

  • Daily ensures that catering materials are ready and well laid on each table.
  • Welcomes customers when they arrive at a restaurant and serves them as they enter the restaurant.
  • Introduces customers to the menu and announces daily or seasonal menu specials.
  • Ensure that the restaurant / working area is kept clean at all times.
  • Answers questions about menu items, ingredients, and pricing.
  • Takes customer orders for food and drinks by writing them on a ticket, or memorizing them.
  • Passes customer orders along to kitchen staff for preparation.
  • Collects food orders from the kitchen, verifies that they are correct and serves them to customers.
  • Ensures that customers are satisfied with their meals and processes orders for additional courses if necessary.
  • Removes used dishes, glasses, and other used items from tables.
  • Coordinates with cashier to prepare bills and delivers them to customers.
  • Processes cash, credit card payments and returns change to customers if necessary.
  • Sets tables with dishes, glasses, and refills table utilities e.g. serviettes, salt, sauce etc.
  • Maintains familiarity with menu items, specials and restaurant information.
  • Meets with managers and staff daily or regularly in order to learn about menu changes and specials as well as discuss upcoming reservations and customers with special needs.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must have a diploma or a degree in hospitality or any other related field from a recognized
    academic institution.
  • Good in English and Swahili.
  • Previous work experience is an added advantage.
